Amir Makar is a photo/journalist who turned to his passion of reporting the news in the wake of the 2011 Arab uprisings, after originally training to be a biomedical engineer. 

Reporting on and assisting in coverage of the many transformations in Egypt since the ouster of longtime President Hosni Mubarak, he has followed from Cairo the constant events, in newspapers with the Daily News Egypt, in radio with NPR, in wire with the Associated Press, and in monitoring Middle East Arabic media with the BBC. He has published photographs with the Thomson Reuters Foundation's Aswat Masriya foundation, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, and Agence-France Presse. He has an MA in photojournalism and documentary photography from the University of Westminster in London.
